Abbot Maximilian on the Road to Recovery

On Monday, Abbot Maximilian was admitted to a Vienna hospital due to heart issues. Thankfully, he is on the road to recovery and will hopefully be discharged soon. Due to his still fragile health and the current challenges at Heiligenkreuz Abbey, he has decided to hand over his office as Abbot President of the Austrian Cistercian Congregation so that he can be fully available to the community at Heiligenkreuz Abbey as Abbot in the coming weeks and months. Abbot Maximilian was elected Abbot President of the Austrian Cistercian Congregation by the Congregational Chapter in 2016 and again in 2022. The Congregation comprises the abbeys of Rein, Heiligenkreuz, Zwettl, Wilhering, Lilienfeld, Schlierbach, and the Priory of Hohenfurt (Vyšší Brod) in Bohemia.
